Dear Parents and Carers,
It has been a busy two weeks with the Kinder to Year 4 students going off to swimming lessons each day. From all accounts, the children have made steady progress over the fortnight in their skills in the pool. You would be noticing though, how tired they are by the time they come home in the afternoon.
Next Friday we will be having a special assembly at 1:45pm to present the Will Lipscombe Memorial Art Awards. This year the competition was to design a Christmas card. Tim, Rachel and Joey Lipscombe will be presenting the winners with their prizes. The winners will have their entries printed as Christmas cards for the school to use. All parents and carers are welcome to attend this assembly.
A flyer was sent today, via the szapp app with details for our annual “SCC End of Year Sausage Sizzle and Christmas Carols”. To RSVP you can either print and return the slip at the bottom of the note or you can click on the link to let us know via the electronic form. It’s always a great night and we hope that every family can come along.
May God bless you and your families as we move into the busiest and most joyous time of the year.

Protecting your child’s online privacy
While sharing pictures online has become a way of life, children’s privacy and safety can easily be compromised. These practical tips will help ensure kids’ safety comes first.
Last Friday, our Year 5/6 students designed, prepared and ran hugely successful market stalls to support Catholic Mission Australia. The Mission Day stalls were run after lunch with all classes attending and students choosing to purchase from a range of stalls. These included water bombing Year 5/6 students, creating your own ice-creams, throwing balls at targets, obstacle course and sweet treats to name a few. We are proud to announce that the combined total raised for the day was $941.75!
We know this money will be of great aid to the wonderful work Catholic Mission do.

“Breathing in God, Breathing out Worry”
There are so many ways of bringing calm and peace to our minds and hearts. Christian Meditation does not only do this but also enhances our sense of wellbeing and mental health, heals us and blesses us. A few weeks ago, at our staff morning prayer, beautiful Mrs Housler shared two sites which explain Christian Meditation beautifully.
“One of the things that is wonderful about Christian Meditation is that when you close your eyes, you are really in your own chapel.” Rev Douglas Crosby
I invite you to have a look at the following internet sites: The first, a YouTube site, has heartfelt descriptions by children in Catholic schools who have found meditation helpful.
The second site gives details about the purpose and fruits of mediation and how it aims to ‘teach children to find stillness, silence and simplicity’.
The comments of the children are a beautiful invitation. Here are a few of their thoughts from the YouTube clip.
“It gives you a quiet space to be with God and Jesus – you can do it in your house, your school and even in the park.” Zachary 10
“I like Christian Meditation because I can pray to God so all my problems will fly away.” Taryn, 11
“It gives you a quiet space to be with God and Jesus – you can do it in your house, your school and even in the park.” Zachary 10
“I like mediation because God talks to me” Addisyn, 6
“Christian Meditation is like going for a dive in heaven.” D, 9.
“I like Christian Mediation because you put all your worries aside and think that you are in a quiet room and nobody is watching you. Be Still and know that God is right there beside you.” Emma, 10.
With Blessings and thoughts for a wonderful week.

Inclusion Day - Tuesday 3 December
Tuesday 3rd December is International Day of People with a Disability.
To recognise this, St Thomas will be holding our own Inclusion Day!
All classes will participate in a range of activities to broaden our awareness of disability and what the students can do to ensure they are inclusive.
To start our day, we are lucky enough to have the Patron of International Day of People with a Disability, Mr Kurt Fearnley joining us from 8:45am – 9:15am. You can learn about Kurt’s journey through his website https://www.kurtfearnley.com/
We will also have a coffee van at the school from 8.30am with free coffee for Parents and Carers.
St Thomas the Apostle Netball – 2019 Winter Competition
The St Thomas Netball teams had a fantastic Winter season in 2019! Our Year 5/6 team did especially well and were champions for their division for their first year at a competition level. Thanks to our amazing coaches Clare, Karen and Virginia who made this happen each week and nurtured the players in their skills and development; as well as the support of the families who braved the Canberra cold each Saturday morning. A special thanks also goes to Mrs Anne Barbic who continues to be a great support to our netball teams at St Thomas the Apostle.
If your child is interested in playing in 2020 please contact Katie Jenkins on kjenkins@grapevine.com.au who can provide you with some further details.
