Principal's Report
Dear Parents/Carers,
It’s been a calm and positive start to Term 4. Thank you for making the effort to have the children here before 8:55am so they start the day with the class and the teachers can do their check-ins with everyone before the days lessons begin. Thank you also for ensuring that the children are dressed in the correct school uniform. It does make a difference when they wear their uniform with pride and respect. I am hoping that it is not too long before we can once again begin our day with the morning assembly on the stage. We are missing having our parents, carers and grandparents joining us for the morning prayer and assembly.
We are having more and more families use the drive through pick up in the afternoon. It can be quite congested between 3:10pm and 3:20pm, so I ask that parents who are parking and coming to collect children or walking from home, to please collect them from the stage. Parents are allowed in the playground in the morning and afternoon for a 10 minute period and observing social distancing, so this is a far more convenient place to meet them.
School Photos
We finally will be able to have our school photos taken. This will take place next Friday, October 23rd. Children are to wear their Sports Uniform on Friday regardless if it’s there sports day or not. Year 6 will wear their leadership shirts. Please have all envelopes for payment returned to the office before Friday.
The Toilet Project
Well this has certainly been the big hit of the year. Our amazing group of Year 6 parents (and grandparents) worked tirelessly over the holidays to transform the dull, boring and smelly toilets (the children’s descriptions) into inviting, bright and colourful bathrooms. It started on the Friday night, the last day of term, with Mega and Kalyani Alagappan, one of our families who have a cleaning business, coming in with a team to scrub and disinfect all four of the bathrooms. Once that was completed, they had never smelt so fresh and clean. The next day the transformation began with the door painting and artistic design work unfolding. Thank you to all those parents who came along for either a few hours or many days. You have made such a difference to our school. Also to John Cousins, our groundsman, for coming in over the holidays to add his expertise and to Ron Van Meurs for his professional advice on painting. We had specialized work done by Louiza Blomfleld, graphic designer and Dai Cameron who was our graffiti artist. Thank you also to our Year 6 Student Representative Council members. They were a driving force of ideas and enthusiasm.
A special and heart –felt mention must go to the team who made it all happen.
Liz Grellman (SCC) aka “Kenny” for leading and organising the project. The team who listened to the student’s ideas, designed and created the themes for the four bathrooms and then made it all happen. You were incredible! Thank you Liz and Ben Grellman, Angela Bartkowiak, Penny Nichols, Lani Davidson, Sally Adams, Sarah Hawke (and her parents Ken and Jane Fraser), Jen and Ben Zachny, Cecilia Abbott, Melina Clark, Donna Shaw, Monique George, Katie Jenkins and Deb Tckalevic.
The only problem now, is keeping the children out of the toilets!
School Hours
At the start of each term I am obliged to remind parents that school commences at 9.00am and concludes at 3.10pm. Recess is from 10.50am until 11.30am with lunch from 1.00pm until 1.40pm. Supervision in the morning commences at 8.30am and concludes in the afternoon at 3.30pm. Children should not be on the school grounds outside of these hours, unless supervised by their parents or carers.
Our Floriade garden bed still has some colourful blooms on show, and the gardens are looking lush. It creates such a beautiful environment for the children. Thanks to our Working Bee team who spruced things up at the end of last term: John Cousins, Luke Mooney, Stuart Clark, Drew Salzke, Jon Wundersitz, Sean O’Brien, Gavin Dunley, Adam Housler and Matthew Bryce.
Keep enjoying the glorious spring weather.
May God bless you and your families,
Ursula Jamieson
