Wellbeing Wall
In weeks 7 & 8 participants complete their spring sessions and begin to look at the season of summer.
During this time, we look at ways of caring for our feelings, remembering the good times and making good choices – all things which help in moving forward in life.
Change and loss can challenge a child’s sense of identity, self-esteem and self-confidence. Supporting children to make good choices is central to improving these aspects of their social and emotional wellbeing. The imagery of summer supports the children’s learning. Summer is often a carefree time involving holidays and time to relax. However, the heat of summer (particularly in places like Australia) requires us to be ready for events like storms, bushfires, sunburn and insects. Making good choices in this season is an important part of ensuring we stay safe, protected and are able to look after ourselves and others. Learning to problem solve and make thoughtful decisions is critically important in developing new attitudes and behaviours. In the summer sessions children have an opportunity to explore how making good choices helps to strengthen their sense of competence and “I can”.
