Dear Parents and Carers,
Today marks the end of two weeks of lockdown and although we still have a significant number of cases in the ACT (209 active as of today), it’s good that some restrictions are being eased by the Public Health Act so that contactless services can be provided where possible. ACT residents have been incredibly compliant with many of those new cases announced today already in quarantine, and the number of infectious in the community being relatively low. With the purpose of lock down being to restrict the interaction between people as much as possible, to stop the spread of the virus, we are certainly achieving that. I cannot thank our community enough for the way you have supported this public health order by keeping your children at home and supporting them in their Remote Learning. We know that this has meant long days for many of you trying to do your work and also helping your child with their schooling. By doing this, the risk of spread between households is lowered. The teachers are finding that with each day of Remote Learning, the children are adapting to this temporary way of learning. The live interactions are now more than check-ins and teachers are using the opportunity to present mini lessons. The amount detail in submitted responses from the students is also improving.
Please make contact with your child’s teacher or me directly if there is anything we can do or anything you need to make this time at home the best it can be. You can make contact through email or phone the school and let Naomi know that you want a call back. I remain hopeful that the lockdown will end soon and that we will have our beautiful children back here all together. The school is quite a lonely and quite place at the moment and that’s not how it’s meant to be.
Yours in partnersip,

RE Week 7 - Who do you say I am?
This week in Community Prayer on Friday, we will learn about Pope Francis’ document called Evangelii Gaudium. This means THE JOY OF THE GOSPEL
Pope Francis wrote this document to remind us of how important it is to listen to God’s word by reading the Bible and then to share this knowledge with everyone we meet. Here are a few key points we will share with the children;
“I invite all Christians, everywhere, at this very moment, to a renewed personal encounter with Jesus Christ." This means that Pope Francis encourages us to spend time in prayer and meditation getting to know Jesus more. When we spend time with people, we come to understand their thoughts and actions. In the same way, when we spend time with Jesus we are more likely to feel the peace that comes into our souls when we invite him into our lives. We can be calmer, happier and more peaceful and our actions can reflect this.
The importance of the way of beauty
Proclaiming Christ means showing that to believe in and to follow him is not only something right and true, but also something beautiful, capable of filling life with new splendour and profound joy, even in the midst of difficulties. Every expression of true beauty can thus be acknowledged as a path leading to an encounter with the Lord Jesus. When we look at the world through God’s eyes, we see beauty in all of creation. Seeing the world in this way brings us closer to God. Even on the hardest days, on the days we are sad or frightened or alone, there is still beauty to be seen and felt everywhere. How blessed we are.
Kindness around Kambah
You are always in our prayers. Please reach out if we can assist you in anyway.

Today is Book Week day! As we are aware, Book Week is a very special time for many children. Knowing this, we are going to have an online dress up day in class groups on Friday 27th August.
We will then have a whole school dress up day when we return to face to face learning.
I encourage all of you to watch the read aloud posted on Thursday. I think it will resonate for you!

About Will Lipscombe
Will was a courageous and inspirational member of our St Thomas community. Sadly, Will passed away in 2015. Will was well known for his understanding of heroes as being “ordinary individuals who find the strength to persevere and endure in spite of overwhelming obstacles.” Will remains a hero in the hearts of many people in our community.
This means that even though Will is no longer with us in person, he will always live on in the heart of our community.
Our community has a HUGE heart.
Courage, spirit and honesty form the legacy that Will leaves in our community.
This year, Will’s family has had a book published about Will’s life. The book talks about several teachers at St Thomas the Apostle School and the impact they had on Will and his family.
This is a reminder of how lucky we are to be a part of this wonderful community. It also talks about how brave Will was.
The image on the cover of the book is one of Will’s drawings. It is a great reflection of bravery and courage.
Each year we offer an opportunity for students to contribute an artistic work in memory of Will. This year, we ask you to reflect on someone you respect for the bravery they show.
Entry Form
LOOP Home Delivery
In response to the extended lockdowns, Scholastic have added the temporary option for parents to select home delivery when placing their Book Club orders. This option will enable families to place and receive orders while your children are undertaking learning at home. The delivery fee is $7.50.
When using the Loop app, parents will be provided with the option to select either "school" or "home delivery" for any new Book Club order they place. The order defaults to the school address, so parents must choose the "Home Delivery" option on the order summary page.
Book Club orders close on Thursday 2/9/2021
