Dear Parents and Carers,
We have had a great day here today celebrating the feast of St Thomas the Apostle. Every class had a part to play in the liturgy which was a vibrant and joyous one. During the middle session of the day, the students rotated through 6 different activities. After lunch they had a choice of activities they could be involved in, including craft and relaxation. The wet weather changed the activities but didn’t dampen the fun and celebrations. Thank you to Penny Vanzwol for planning such an inspiring day, to the teachers for organising and running your chosen activities (and making delicious cupcakes for all our students) and to Victoria Town for her special canteen lunch of Indian Curries. Thank you also to her parent and sibling helpers – it was a real family affair. It’s been a brilliant day.
Disco Tonight
Although it will be raining we trust that there will be a good roll up of students for the disco tonight.
Entrance will be via the corridor from the carpark. Any parents escorting their children to the hall, helping out with supervision or canteen duties, must use the check in Canberra QR before entering the school building.
Pick up will be via the hall doors. All children will be seated on the floor of the hall at the end of the disco and called to the door when their parents or carers arrive. No child will be allowed to leave the hall without adult supervision.
The times for the disco are:
K-2 will run from 6pm to 7pm,
Years 3-6 from 7:15pm to 8:15pm.
Pupil Free Day first day of Term
A reminder to families that the first day of Term 3, Monday July 12th has been allocated by Catholic Education as a Pupil Free Day. Once again the teachers from St Thomas the Apostle will be joining with the teachers of St Michael’s Kaleen, Holy Spirit Nicholls, and St Bernard’s Bateman’s Bay to continue our Catalyst Journey. We will be working with Dr Lorraine Hammond for the day and Lorraine will then be at St Thomas the Apostle the following Wednesday and Saturday (yes Saturday!) to work with the teachers on Reading and High Impact Teaching Practices. The front office will be open on the Monday and TEAMKIDS will be providing a holiday program for those requiring it.
Term 3 has been a fruitful and engaging term. I hope you all get to have a great winters break and if you planned to travel, I pray that it can happen and that your journey is a safe one.
I look forward to seeing the smiling faces of our St Thomas the Apostle School Community back at school on Tuesday July 13th.
Yours in partnership
Ursula Jamieson

School Community Council - latest news
The School Community Council last met on June 7th (week 7). Key points to note:
Hall refurbishment and parking arrangements
Plans for our school hall refurbishment are well underway, with construction expected to begin in August and completed in time for the new school year in 2022. Please note: During this time, there will be some reduction in available parking at the school, as the staff car park outside the hall / front office will be closed for construction. Additional parking is available at the oval (Reynell Place), and further information will be provided after the holidays.
School jumpers
We are pleased to report that a full-zip option for the maroon school jumper will be made available as an alternative to the ¼ zip currently available. The order for the fill-zip maroon jumpers as well as royal blue sports jumpers, both with embroidered school logos, has been placed with Lowes (Savvy Schoolwear), and we will advise when these are in stock.
School garden
We have received a proposal to expand our school garden to include, among other things, fruit trees, native food plants, and a worm farm for compositing. To facilitate the expansion, we are considering establishing a garden committee - if you have an interest in the garden, please get in touch!
Open meeting
We invite parents and carers to attend an Open Meeting of the SCC in Term 3. This will be an opportunity to meet your SCC representatives as well as other parents and discuss issues and ideas for our school. We will advise the date and time after the holidays.
Finally, thank you to parents and children for completing the 2021 satisfaction surveys, your feedback is greatly valued. As always, we love to hear from you - if you have any feedback you’d like to provide, or issues you’d like to raise, please contact your class parent or an SCC member at any time.
