Dear Parents/Carers,
National Science Week
This week is National Science Week and there are some exciting happenings across the school. Many of the teachers have included activities in this week’s Home Learning. Mr Mooney is taking the S from STEM this week (and next) and focusing on this year’s theme of… Deep Blue innovations for the future of our oceans. The lower primary have been looking at scientists and oceans and the upper primary are using programmable spheros to discover how we can clean up our oceans. Take a look at our Facebook page to see more.
On Friday morning, we are taking part in the Satellite Selfie event. The satellite will fly over on Friday 21 August between 10:10 and 10:20am. Hopefully there won’t be any cloud cover at that time. The students will be spaced in the playground to form the shape of a heart and everyone will be holding a piece of fluoro paper so that we are more visible from space. This Inspiring Australia initiative is supported by the Australian Government as part of National Science Week.
Toilet Project Makeover
Great progress is being made for our Toilet Project Makeover. The parent volunteers, led from the SCC and the students from the SRC, are so motivated by this and it’s catching onto all the students! We are at the stage where we need some advice so hopefully you can help.
- We need a tiler to come and look at the boys toilets to give us some advice on what we can do with the grouting in there.
- We need a painter to come and look at what is going to be painted and help us work out how much paint we need and what the best sort to get would be.
If you can help or know of anyone who can give us the advice we need, please contact the school and we will pass your details on to the Toilet Project Team.
Spring is not far away, but this weekend I hear that Canberra could possibly have some snow showers!
Stay warm and safe everyone

RE Week 5 - Be still and know that I am God
This Monday during our Community Prayer, we focussed on God’s covenant with David. In the particular Scripture we used, God uses the word FOREVER 3 times. God really wants us to know that His love for us is never ending. He is with us always. He has always been with His people. This gives us a great sense of hope. Hope is so important in our lives. Hope gives us the resilience and courage to face all that life brings. Catholics know that hope comes from God. God is with us forever so hope is with us forever too. What a great thing to know!
On Friday we will focus on the Ten Commandments. God gave Moses the Commandments because He wanted His people to live in peace. Remember that a covenant tells us what God will do for us and in return, it asks for a commitment from us. Through the Ten Commandments, God shows us that He will love us always and keep us safe. In return, He wants us to live lives guided by love and compassion.
The Ten Commandments can be separated into two groups;
- How to live in a good relationship with God
- How to live in a good relationship with others
We actually hear Jesus say this when he says:
“‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘Love your neighbour as yourself.’ All the Law and the Prophets hang on these two commandments.”
First Eucharist
A note is going home today about Masses for First Eucharist and Family Prayer Night. Please return this note by Monday 24th August.
