Drop off in the morning
Below is a message from Carl Jenkins our School Community Chair, about what he is seeing at drop off in the mornings.
A number of parents have expressed some concerns about the use of the ‘kiss and drop’ area in the mornings, so I thought it would be useful to outline how this system works. The key principle in all of this is safety – and with many more of us working remotely, the ‘kiss and drop’ is increasingly congested as the time gets closer to 9am which creates challenges for many using the ‘kiss and drop’ area.
The ’kiss and drop’ area is intended to keep our kids out of the car park – they should all disembark the vehicle from the left hand side, onto the footpath (which means, they should not have to set foot on the bitumen). They shouldn’t need to get their bags from the boot of the car, and as previous newsletters this year have indicated, if you need to assist your child please park in the designated area to do so (remembering that our kids need to be escorted across the pedestrian crossing by parents). It only takes a minor error or accident for a serious safety issue to arise in the car park, and the safety of our kids is the most important thing.
Given the need to ensure our car park is safe the SCC has asked the school to ensure a staff member is present in the car park to monitor and supervise, and ensure that the car park remains a safe place. This obviously detracts from their ability to set-up for classes, but taking a principle of ‘safety first’ means that there really is no alternative. If one of the staff asks you to do something – please cooperate with any instructions; they will be there for all our benefit and most of all to ensure the safety of our kids. Thanks in advance!

In response to this and to make drop off safe in the morning for all our students we will be putting the following measures in place.
- Although there is a designated Kiss and Drop off area (signed and the gutter painted red), where there is a line of cars behind this area, children may get out on the left hand side and walk safely along the path along the church and enter the playground through the church gate.
- Kiss and Drop is only for children getting out of the car independently and walking in the school gate. For children needing assistance, please park in the nearby carpark and walk them across the pedestrian crossing. A teacher on duty will be there to stop traffic so that you can cross safely. Children must be accompanied across the pedestrian crossing.
- The teacher on duty will ensure that children get out of the car on the left hand side of the car and not on the right side where cars are driving by.
- This teacher will be there until the bell rings at 8:55am. All students should have arrived at school by this time.
Pick up in the afternoon
Thank you for staggering your arrival times for pick up, this allows for traffic to flow. We have had a complaint about cars queuing on the road to make a right hand turn into the school. This has meant that cars driving out of the school grounds cannot turn right and traffic is backing up into the school grounds. Please be aware if this is happening and take measures such as driving on and coming back the other way, or turning left out of the school grounds and making a U turn further along Boddington. For the most part, it is going well and parents and carers are being courteous drivers when picking up their children
Let’s hope that Canberra continues to be COVID free and that we keep our family and friends in Victoria, in our prayers as they endure the hardships of lockdown and sadly for many, the passing of loved ones.
May God bless you and your families

RE Week 3 - Be still and know that I am God
This week we are reflecting on our belief in the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit, with the Father and the Son is one God. The Holy Spirit is the creative love of God which gives everything life. We will reflect on the way different artists have presented the Holy Spirit and how this may inspire us. When we are still and at peace in our hearts, the Holy Spirit inspires us to be the best we can be.

The Constable Kenny Koala program is committed to doing its part to limit the spread of COVID-19 in the community. For the safety of everyone across Canberra, the program remains suspended and unfortunately we are unable to accept school bookings at this stage.
Although the program hasn’t been delivered face-to-face to children across Canberra for much of this year, that hasn’t stopped Constable Kenny from developing easy and helpful online educational content so the kids can continue to receive important safety messaging on how to Stay OK!
The Constable Kenny website is a great resource for teachers and parents to share with kids aged 3 – 12 years old. The activities and resources cover the important safety messages that Constable Kenny teaches children in the classroom. They include road safety, protective behaviours, decision-making and consequences, and cyber safety. Constable Kenny also releases fun educational videos for the kids on ACT Policing's Facebook page to teach kids how to Stay OK. You can also find Constable Kenny on his dedicated YouTube channel where there are loads of educational videos to entertain the kids. Constable Kenny and his mate Tilly the koala put together a special educational video for the kids on how to stay safe during COVID-19. This video teaches children about the importance of washing their hands with soap properly and regularly, and how to keep a safe space between themselves and other people who don’t live in the same house as them. You can also find a safety video of Constable Kenny and his mate Kev the kangaroo which includes some koality tips on how the kids can Stay OK on the road. Constable Kenny Twitter page has also been providing weekly educational content for teachers/parents to share with kids to keep them entertained as it includes online activities and resources. To stay up-to-date with the latest educational information and news give him a follow. Although we can’t confirm just yet when the program will recommence, Constable Kenny looks forward to visiting you all in the future and has a couple of new surprises for the kids! Constable Kenny says, ‘I can’t tell you just yet’. We appreciate your understanding and apologise for any inconvenience this may cause. Remember to Stay OK! Kind regards, Constable Kenny Koala programLowes will be having a 20% off Zero card day this week in store and online on the 6th & 7th of August.
