Dear Parents/Carers,
So far so good with Canberra and the COVID 19 situation. We are hoping that we can move to Stage 3 on the Recovery Road Map as set out by Catholic Education. This will mean the easing of restrictions and parents and carers being welcomed back into the school. Unfortunately until that happens we will not be able to have parents attend the performance assemblies. However, they will be recorded and parents of students on that year level will be able to view it on a locked down link via Seesaw (Year K-2) and MS-TEAMS (Years 3-6). Tomorrow will be the first performance since the beginning of the year and we are looking forward to seeing Year 2 back up on the stage.
The Toilet Project
We are well out our way in planning for a make–over of both the lower primary and upper primary toilets. Yesterday, an enthusiastic group of Year 6 parents met with the SRC (Student Representative Council) members for the next step in the process. The SRC have met with all the classes in the school to get them thinking about ideas for painting and decorating the toilets. They looked at what amazing bathrooms other schools have created and are excited about making this happen at St Thomas. If you would like to know more about this initiative, click this link to see a short 2 minute video about it.
Liz Grellman from the SCC (School Community Council) is leading the team of 8 parents who are doing the planning and organising. The team would like to invite any parents from across the school who would like to be involved, especially in the physical work – cleaning, painting, and decorating. You will be welcomed with open arms as many hands will be needed to make this happen. The planned days are the last two days of Term 3 and then right across the school holidays. Even if you can only help out for a few hours, your support will be welcomed. Please email the front office at office.sttapkambah@cg.catholic.edu.au to let us know.
We look forward to seeing everyone in winter woollies tomorrow for our 'Christmas in July'.
May God bless you and your families

RE Week 2 - Be still and know that I am God
This week we are learning about what it means to believe in Jesus Christ the Son of God. It is important that we understand that our faith has a historical context. This solidifies the belief that Jesus was fully human and fully divine. A common misconception amongst children involves the notion that Christianity has been around forever. This week we will reflect on the fact that Jesus Christ is at the centre of Christianity. The meaning of “Christian” is to be a follower of Christ. It means to truly believe in Jesus and to follow His way. We believe in Jesus as the Son of God. Without the Son of God, there is no Christianity. Jesus means in Hebrew: "God saves." At the annunciation, the angel Gabriel gave him the name Jesus as his proper name, which expresses both his identity and his mission.

It's Christmas in July - Friday 31 July
This Friday, the last day of July, we are having CHRISTMAS IN JULY!
Students are invited to wear free uniform which includes dressing as if they are coming to a’ Winter Wonderland’, with beanies and scarves and warm winter woollies.
During the day, classes will have some fun winter Christmas activities to do e.g. making symmetrical snowflake decorations.
The SRC have put together some fun ideas for the teachers to choose from. It will be a fun day with lots of learning happening as well.
Kinder 100 Days - Friday 31 July
We’ve carried the ones and shown all of our working. This Friday will mark 100 days of school for Kindergarten students. We have some wonderful 100 days activities planned for the day. We are asking that each child brings in 100 of something to show the class. This could be anything from pieces of Lego, leaves, grains of rice, pasta or smarties. Please place the 100 items in a bag (preferably a clear snap lock bag) so they can be shown/shared and not lost. We appreciate your support with this exciting milestone and look forward to sharing some photos with you all.

The Cancer Council Reminder is that we need to put hats back on in August.
End of May is Hats Off Day!
The Beginning of August is Hats On Again For All Of Us!
No dogs allowed on School grounds
Whilst I am a lover of dogs, not everyone is and many children (and adults) are fearful of dogs, some even allergic. I am sure you are confident of the nature of your dog’s personality but they can be unpredictable in situations such as when people they don’t know are around or approach them. I appreciate your support and cooperation with this matter.
Kind regards,

Happy Birthday to the following students who are celebrating a birthday this week
There is a large amount of lost property/clothing at the school.
If your child/ren have lost items there will be an opportunity this week to find them!
On Friday 31 July and Monday 3 August, the tubs will be in the Front Office for parents/carers to look through.
