Dear Parents/Carers,
This Wednesday we celebrated the beginning of the Church’s season of Lent, with a beautiful Mass shared with our St Thomas the Apostle parishioners. Children reflected on the meaning of Lent and wrote their personal intentions they will strive for during this time on paper flowers. These were placed at the foot of the cross in the church. Have you thought about making a personal commitment you will work towards this Lent?
We had a strong attendance at our ‘Think You Know’ cyber safety information night on Tuesday. We had parents of children from Kindergarten to Year 6. This shows a real awareness in our parents, that cyber safety with our children is vitally important and is the responsibility of us all. We intend to have it again next year, and will be asking parents beforehand to think about the questions they have around cyber safety. These can then be given to the knowledgeable presenter to answer.
After the outstanding success last year of combining Harmony Day with Grandparents day, we will be doing this again this year. It will be on Friday March 20th. More information will be coming soon.
Next week our Year 5/6 students are off to camp in Jindabyne. They have an exciting itinerary planned, including canoeing, rope climbing and weather permitting an alpine hike. We wish them all the best for the 3 days away.
May God bless you and your families,
Ursula Jamieson

RE Week 4 - Be still and know that I am God
Yesterday, Ash Wednesday, marked the beginning of Lent. Just as Jesus went into the wilderness for 40 days, during Lent we are challenged to look into our hearts and to make a change that will bring us into closer relationship with God, with our family and community and with the land that provides such beauty and sustenance for us. Pope Francis tells us that in order to grow as people of God, we must focus on God’s great love for us and how we can use this love to Be the people we are called to BE.
This Lent, we will focus on growing those aspects of ourselves that block us from being all we can BE. We will reflect on how we can let God’s love guide us, change us and grow us.
Fr Peter reminded us that there are three ways we can do this;
Prayer- During Lent we make time for prayer in our lives. Prayer brings us closer to God. Sometimes our prayer is dominated by the chatter in our minds and hearts. During Lent we remember that an important part of prayer is reflective listening. We open our hearts to let God gently speak to us.
Almsgiving- During Lent we focus on seeing a need and doing something about it. This may involve monetary donations but it may also involve the giving of time and the giving of your presence. Fr Peter reminded us that whatever we do, we do with love.
Fasting- Traditionally, during Lent we fast from eating meat on Friday and we try to “give up” something that we enjoy eating. This is developing our self-control. This Lent, we encourage you to think about giving up a habit or characteristic that may get in the way of creating positive relationships. For example we may grow our frustrations into persistence, grow judgement into empathy, grow anxiety into faith.
The children have placed their intentions onto a cross in the church foyer. I encourage you to visit this cross as a family and maybe place your own intention on the cross.

The new school jumpers with the logo are still not available. There are issues with delivery due to them being processed out of China.
At this stage all students (including Kinder) are permitted to wear the plain maroon jumper with their school uniform or a royal blue jumper for sports days. These are available from the Uniform Shop or other retailers.
