Dear Parents and Carers,
Kindergarten Orientation
The Orientation Morning for students coming to Kindergarten in 2020 will be held tomorrow, Friday November 29th from 9.30 until 12.00 pm. This is the second of our Orientation mornings. The pre-schoolers will spend time in the classrooms and be introduced to the classroom environment and some routines of ‘big school’. Their parents will meet in the hall for an information session. Coming to primary school is a significant event in the lives of the children and their parents and we are looking forward to making families feel very welcome at St Thomas the Apostle. I look forward to welcoming the Kindergarten families for 2020 at this special event tomorrow.
The Will Lipscombe Art Award
Will was a student at St Thomas the Apostle who sadly passed away from cancer in 2015. Joey, his younger brother is in Year 6 this year. Will was an inspiration to all who knew him. He loved drawing and art and was very talented in this area. As a tribute to this beautiful boy, we hold an annual art competition, with a different theme each year. This year’s competition was about designing a Christmas card that embraced the joy of Christmas. The winning design will be printed onto cards and used at the end of the year by the Staff of St Thomas. A donation will be made to children’s cancer research in the name of the winner. David Thiele who was the principal when Will was at St Thomas’ will be our special guest presenter, along with Tim and Rachel (Will and Joeys’ parents). The winners and their entries will be published in the newsletter next week.
Staffing
Congratulations to Miss Lauren Jameson, Miss Natalia Ciuffetelli, and Mrs Tracey Kenna who will be joining the staff of St Thomas the Apostle in 2020. We are sad to be losing three of our valued staff who are moving on to new schools and roles next year. Miss Ruth Blackwell will join the staff of St John the Apostle in Florey, Mr Daniel Nguyen will be seeking other adventures overseas and Mrs Brigitta van Deas will be welcoming the birth of her third child in March. I would like to thank Ruth, Brigitta and Daniel for their contributions to our school during their time at St Thomas the Apostle.
Students leaving St Thomas the Apostle at the end of the year
Please ensure that you have informed us, in writing, if your child will not be returning to St Thomas’ in 2020. Obviously, this does not apply to students in Year 6. It is imperative, for planning purposes, that we have accurate information with regard to enrolment numbers. I also need to know the destination school as part of system accountability requirements. Thank you to those who have already provided this information.
May God bless you and your family as we embark upon the beautiful season of Advent.

Inclusion Day - Tuesday 3 December
Tuesday 3rd December is International Day of People with a Disability.
To recognise this, St Thomas will be holding our own Inclusion Day!
All classes will participate in a range of activities to broaden our awareness of disability and what the students can do to ensure they are inclusive.
To start our day, we are lucky enough to have the Patron of International Day of People with a Disability, Mr Kurt Fearnley joining us from 8:45am – 9:15am. You can learn about Kurt’s journey through his website https://www.kurtfearnley.com/
We will also have a coffee van at the school from 8.30am with free coffee for Parents and Carers.
