Dear Parents and Carers,
It was such a joy to see so many of our families enjoying a Father’s Day breakfast together this morning. Over 120 of our families were able to make it along. There were big smiles as people enjoyed their bacon and egg rolls and a lot of fun was had with the kicking competition. Thank you to the mums who came along and set-up, cook, clean up and pack up. Our event could not have happened without your help. You are a credit to our community.
SCC Meeting
We are hoping to get a strong attendance at our open meeting on 11 September. Angela Schacht, our SCC chair, spoke a little bit about it to the parents at the breakfast this morning. She and Dan McInerney, the deputy chair, are going to send out more information about it next week and also some plans that will be put in place to help with childcare. That should make it easier for parents and cares to attend.
It's been a big week of success for our students. On Monday, Mikayla Giacomin won the semifinal round for Rostrum. She will now go on to compete in the grand final in September. For the next round, Mikayla will be given a new topic to write about and present a speech on. Congratulations Mikayla on your fine effort. We wish you luck as you now prepare for the finals.
On Wednesday, the Year 5/6 students sent a debating team to St Jude's in Holder for the next round of the debating competition. The team of Jared, Mikayla, Leo and Isaac were most impressive in not only their arguments about ‘why we should not have a three day weekend (what a hard argument to convince people of) but also in their poise and delivery. Congratulations to these students.
On Thursday, two teams competed in the Sue Geh basketball competition. Both teams played their hearts out and Ms Chant, who accompanied them said that they were totally exhausted from their efforts. The Division 1 team were overall winners for the Southside competition and will now go on to compete in the ACT final against the winning Northside team. This will be held in October. A very big thank you goes to Mon and Jonno Warren. They are parents in our school who have a passion for basketball and gave us so much of their time coaching not only the girls teams, but also the boys teams earlier in the term. Your efforts have paid off and are much appreciated. You also are a credit to our parents and carers community.
And finally, I am signing off for the rest of the term. I am taking 3 weeks long service leave and travelling overseas with my family. Susan Chant will be acting Principal in my absence, Luke Mooney will be acting Assistant Principal and Tarthra Kennelly and Natasha Pank will be sharing the coordinator role. I know that the school will be in great hands over this time.
To all our dads, grandfathers and special people in the lives of our students, have a sensational day on Sunday. I hope you are thoroughly spoilt by your beautiful families.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Term 3 Week 7 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 3 – The Truth
This week our Year 4 students participated in a retreat day centered around the Eucharist. They began the day with mass and then the candidates received the sacrament of Reconciliation in preparation for next week. A selection of students in Year 6 from the Youth Ministry Team helped Chiara run some activities that taught students about the Eucharist. The students also wore free clothes and had a pizza lunch. They were respectful, reverent, engaged and had a great day.
One of the questions that students were asked during the day was “What do you bring to the table?” Whether it is the altar at mass, the dinner table or gathering somewhere with other people. What gifts and talents do you possess that you are able to share with others?
St Vincent de Paul
This week we are asking families to donate toothbrushes, toothpaste and toilet paper. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

Well, what a fantastic end to our book week with a visit from author Amelia McInerney. She had K-2 engaged with storytelling, the viewing of book trailers and amazing them with facts about herself and her books. You can still purchase her books until Tuesday of next week using the QR code below. Amelia will personally sign any purchased books and they will be delivered to the school at the end of next week.
Year 3/4 finished off their book week art this week, completing a forest of frogs in a small handmade diorama. While Year 5/6 made a start on a new project to create an infographic for their Kinder or Year 1 buddy. We look forward to sharing these with our buddies in a couple of weeks' time.
