Dear Parents and Carers,
It is hard to believe that we are nearly halfway through Term 3. Being witness to the teaching and learning occurring throughout the school is one of the most rewarding parts of my job here at St Thomas the Apostle. Watching our teachers teach and the engagement in learning shown by your children fills me with great pride and admiration for everyone involved. At times, learning can be challenging and we often ask our students to push themselves out of their comfort zone to learn new knowledge and skills. Our teachers work above and beyond to ensure the learning needs of all our students are met. If you have a concern about your child/ren whether it be academic, social or emotional, the first port of call should always be with the classroom teacher. They are the adults that work with your children throughout the school day and know your children the best. As always, members of the leadership team, in consultation with teachers, are here to discuss anything that cannot be solved at the classroom level. Having open and honest conversations between home and school is something that we value highly.
The best Fete in Canberra is back!
The countdown to the best fete in Canberra is on! Don’t plan anything for the second Saturday in November (11 November) between 10:00am and 3:00pm. Be sure to follow our school and the St Thomas the Community Fete Facebook pages for regular updates. The fete committee has begun planning for the event and have all meetings scheduled in the lead up to the event. Please do not drop off any donations to the school just yet as we have nowhere to store them. There will be scheduled days leading up to the fete when donations can be dropped off. We will let you know when this is.
School Sport
Another great part of my job is watching your children participate in their sporting endeavours. I was lucky enough to see some of our Year 3 boys participate in the Jamie Pearlman Cup last week and watch their skills increase as each game occurred. Not only were they out on the court trying their very best, they were working together to achieve a common goal and building stronger connections with each other. I am sure this is something that you witness when your own child/ren participate in their chosen sport on a Friday afternoon/Saturday/Sunday. Thank you to Johnno Warren for coaching the team last week when he doesn’t even have any sons of his own – another reason why our school is pretty amazing!
Whether you are resting and recharging this weekend, catching up with friends or family, doing chores or taking your children to their weekend sports, enjoy every moment and be safe.
Yours in Christ,
Susan Chant
Assistant Principal
RE Term 3 Week 4 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 3 – The Truth
This weekend we have students attending commitment Masses at St Thomas as they prepare for the sacrament of First Eucharist. You are very welcome to come and support these students at Saturday 6pm, Sunday 8:30am or Sunday 10am mass this weekend. Children’s liturgy will be run at the 10am mass.
St Vincent de Paul
This week we are asking families to donate toothbrushes, toothpaste and toilet paper. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

Calendar
To view the Parent and Carers calendar please follow the link below to our school website. This calendar is very user friendly and clear to view on mobile phones.
Our book week parade is in 2 weeks' time on Friday 25 August 8:50am. All families are welcome to join us at this event. Coffee and hot drinks will be on sale in the morning as you walk through the school gates. Now is the time to start thinking of something that you can use for a costume. It has been delightful hearing so many students share their ideas with me with some even sharing they can borrow items off friends and family for their costume. We look forward to celebrating as a community.
Another way our community comes together is in the library at lunchtimes. We have regular students who love spending their lunchtimes in the library drawing, colouring in and making creations. This week I think we had record numbers with some students also playing with one of our book week displays which celebrates our staffs pets.

Please find below a copy of our timetable and all the wonderful events that the children will get to experience during the magic of book week.
