Dear Parents and Carers,
Last Friday we began our Peer Support program for 2023. We haven’t seen this happening for the past 3 years and we are so happy to see that it’s back as part of our Wellbeing supports across the school. The unit focus is called, “Moving Forward", which is about developing resilience and building positive relationships amongst students. Year 5/6 school leaders will work with a group of approximately fifteen students from K-6 with a supervising teacher. They will follow a script and lesson plan to help them become competent group leaders. Peer Support groups will meet every Friday from 12:30 until 1 pm. We have done this for the past two weeks now and we are already seeing the insightful answers the children are giving in their groups.
On the subject of wellbeing, Catholic School Parents Canberra and Goulburn are offering a free Family Event with Andrew Fuller, being hosted at St John Paul II College on Tuesday 5 September at 6pm. The event aims to bring families from across the Archdiocese together and give them practical ways they can support their child in their learning.
All the information is in the attached Family Event flyer. We know it can be hard for families to attend these opportunities in the evenings so there is an option for live streaming for parents and carers that are unable to attend in-person. Even though my children are grown up, I am looking forward to attending this as I know how excellent Andrew Fuller is.
May you have a peaceful weekend with your family and friends.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Term 3 Week 3 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 3 – The Truth
On Tuesday night we held the information night for families undertaking the First Eucharist program this term. We keep these students and families in our prayers over the next 5 weeks as they prepare for this special sacrament.
KJ beautifully led our school in community prayer this afternoon. They shared the gospel passage Mark 6:46-51 – Jesus walks on water. KJ taught us to keep our eyes on Jesus through the storms in our life. Even though things can seem very chaotic and overwhelming, we are reminded to focus on Jesus who is able to bring us peace.
St Vincent de Paul
This week we are asking families to donate tea and coffee. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

This week we introduced an optional competition for book week. “Design an A.C.T page” for the book Australia from dawn to dusk. We read this shortlisted book which features places all over Australia throughout the day from morning until night. We discovered that there was no page about Canberra, A.C.T. If your child would like to design a page for the competition it will be due in Week 6 during their library lesson. They can draw the features of Canberra, some are pictured below on either A3 or A4 paper using pastel colours like the illustrations in the book.

It was a fantastic book that sparked lots of conversations around places in Australia, places that we have individually visited, the abbreviations for states and territories and features of these places.
In Week 7, K-2 will be experiencing an author visit from Amelia McInerney. If you would like to order her books to be signed by her on the day, please see the flyer below.
