Dear Parents and Carers,
It is great to be back at school after the winter break. The children and the staff are all fresh and ready for a new term of learning.
Welcome back Mr Ryan. Geoff has spent the first two terms of the year on long service leave and took the opportunity to take the family across the country to explore some of our wonderful places around Australia. I would also like to welcome Ms Morgan Murray who is teaching Year 1 until Week 8 of this term. It is great to add Morgan to our staff.
Later in the term St Thomas the Apostle will go through a process of registration. This involves representatives from Catholic Education and school leaders from other schools reviewing our programs, policy compliance and practices.
While it is a rigorous process it is a time for the teachers to showcase the learning that is occurring in the classrooms. The panel will spend time visiting classrooms and speaking with the children about their learning. I am confident that the panel will be exceptionally pleased with our efforts to provide a quality education for all children at St Thomas the Apostle.
The panel will provide actions for future improvement against current context and strategic directions in the areas of: Catholic Identity and Culture; Continuous Improvement; Staff Capacity and Leadership; Excellence in Teaching and Learning; Partnerships and Community; Stewardship and Resources.
We look at this as an opportunity to showcase our school and a celebration of our achievements since the previous registration in 2018.
It is going to be a busy and engaging term ahead.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Term 3 Week 1 - "I am the Way, the Truth and the Life” (John 14:6)
Term 3 – The Truth
Thank you for the warm welcome back this week. Seeing all the smiling faces of students, parents, staff and members of the wider community reminded me that I am part of such an amazing community here at St Thomas the Apostle. I have spent the first 6 months of the year travelling around Australia in a camper trailer with my family. We had the most incredible time and got to see many extraordinary places. It was a special time for us to be together as a family, to slow down and to live simply.
Our symbol for this term is water. We encountered water throughout our trip in many different ways (beach, rivers, lakes, waterfalls, etc). Water can be both powerful and calm, flowing or still. It is easy to get caught up in the busy flow of life. Try to create pockets of stillness within the week where you have time to be present, grateful, to pray and reflect. You may like to attend mass, share a regular meal together as a family, say grace before meals or do a family focused activity.
Look after yourselves this term!
Geoff Ryan

Welcome back to another term in the library. We have made lots of exciting new displays and some changes that the students have learnt about this week.
Book week
Book week is this term, and the theme is “Read, grow, inspire”. In Week 6 we will hold our annual Book week dress up parade on Friday 25 August. Children dress up as a character from a book or as something that fits with the theme. There are some websites below to give you some ideas. We encourage you to use your imagination to create a costume with your child from what you already have at home rather than having to pay for a costume. You’ll be surprised with what you come up with! Looking forward to seeing our community come together to celebrate the magic of books.

Overdues
We have 400+ books overdue from last term. Please remind your child to return their books to the library during next week's lessons so that other students can borrow them. An email will be sent home with overdues next week, please be reminded that this is computer-generated.

Happy Birthday
to the following students and teachers
who celebrated a birthday
in the holidays and this week
This term in Auslan students in Kinder, Year 1 and Year 2 will be learning signs for food. It would be amazing if they could practice using signs when they are at home, for example when they are packing their lunch boxes or asking for snacks.
