Dear Parents and Carers,
We are in the closing stages of the Lenten season with Holy Week beginning this Sunday, Palm Sunday. The events of Holy Week will be reflected upon over the coming days, with each class retelling and acting out a part of the story for the rest of the school. Kinder and Year 1 are doing Palm Sunday, Year 3/4 are doing Holy Thursday, Year 2 are doing the Trials of Jesus and Years 5/6 will be doing the Stations of the Cross.
ANZAC Day ceremony
We will be holding an ANZAC day ceremony at 10:30 am on Wednesday 26 April, our first day back after we return from holidays.
Interim Reports
Today from 4 pm, you will be able to log on to the Parent Portal on COMPASS and access your child/ren’s mid semester Progress Report.
This report gives a general indication of how your child is progressing against the Personal, Social and Learning Behaviour outcomes for their particular year level. There is also an opportunity for your child’s teacher to request to organise a time with you for a conversation.
Parent Teacher interviews will be in Week 8 of Term 2 followed by the End of Semester Report in Week 10.
To continue to work in partnership with you to educate your child, please know you are welcome to request to speak with your child’s teacher at any time of the school term. We value the importance of connecting with you to promote this positive partnership.
School Community Council
We had our second School Community Council meeting of the term on Monday night. With a new council starting we spent time with each member sharing what they will bring to the council this year. It was clear that the intentions of each and every one, was to serve the school and the community in a positive and meaningful way. The SCC will report to the parents and carers what is discussed, via the newsletter, in the weeks after each meeting.
Carpark when it rains
I won’t repeat what I sent out on Compass on Wednesday. I did want to stress though, how important it is to use the pedestrian crossings (always) but particularly when it rains. Wednesday morning when the rain was coming down quite heavily at drop off time, so many parents were crossing directly in front of cars coming through the drop off area. Please don’t do this. It is not only extremely dangerous but also sets a terrible example for the children. No one wants to get drenched but it’s better than being hit by a car.
Tuesday 4 April
With the passing of Senior Ngunnawal Elder Aunty Agnes Shea OAM, all schools on Ngunnawal Country will fly the Aboriginal flag at half-mast on this day.
Early Arrivals
Supervision begins at 8:30am each morning. Students should not be arriving at school before this time. If you need to have care for your child/ren before this time, please book them into TEAM KIDS. Your cooperation with this will be appreciated.
Easter nearly here
I’m sure you are all looking forward to the break ahead. The shops are full of Easter eggs ready to celebrate on Easter Sunday. As we finish school for the Easter break, before Holy Week even begins, we ask that out next week, children do not bring Easter eggs to give out to their friends. Please wait until we come back after the holidays where we will celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and enjoy some Easter treats.
We will be holding our traditional “Easter Hat” parade on the first morning back, Wednesday 26 April. It will be a good holiday activity for the children, imaging and creating a wonderful Easter Hat.
Pilgrimage
Over the Easter break and the first week of the Term 2, I will be on a pilgrimage through the Holy Land, following the footsteps of Jesus. I will visit Bethlehem, Nazareth, Amman, Jordan, the Dead Sea and the Sea of Galilee, all the places you hear in bible stories. I am very fortunate to have this opportunity to be part of this pilgrimage alongside 16 other principals from our Archdiocese. I look forward to sharing my experiences with the students as part of their Religious Education when I return.
During my absence Susan Chant will be Acting Principal and I am confident (as always) that the school will be in very good hands!
Daylight saving
Daylight saving finishes on Sunday morning, time to wind the clocks back an hour. I know that there will be no children late for school on Monday, in fact I am sure they will all be on time at 8:30am!
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal

Reconciliation Notes
Please make sure you return Reconciliation notes with your family night preference before Wednesday 5th April.
Holy Week
As we prepare our hearts for the coming of Christ at Easter, we enter Holy Week with gratitude. We are reminded that Jesus shares in the suffering of humanity. We thank God for this ultimate Sacrifice during this time.
Alter Servers
Father Praveen has asked for an expression of interest for any child who has made their Eucharist to nominate themselves to train to be an alter server at our school and parish masses. Please email me at jacinta.housler@cg.catholic.edu.au to express your child’s interest in this.
Project Compassion and Easter Raffle
Please remember to buy your raffle tickets to go into the draw to win an Easter Hamper. All money raised will join our Project Compassion collection to support Caritas. For more information of how this money helps others, please see this following link.
St Vincent de Paul
Thank you beautiful St Thomas the Apostle school community for your support! Check out this trolley of food that we were able to donate to Kambah Conference of St Vincent de Paul.

This week we are asking families to donate some toothbrushes, toothpaste and toilet paper. Please consider adding one of these items to your weekly shop to make life a little easier for those in need in our community. Children can bring items in any day and place them in the St Vincent de Paul tub in each classroom.

Please mark in your diaries:

Calendar
To view the Parent and Carers calendar please follow the link below to our school website. This calendar is very user friendly and clear to view on mobile phones.
There are 3 ways for the children to return their library books each week:
- Place books in the green trolley by the stage on your borrowing day- we are trying to get as many books returned in the morning as we can
- Bring your books to your library lesson and return to Mrs Rootes
- Return books in the returns trolley in the library any day of the week
If you miss your borrowing day, the library is open every Tuesday lunchtime, so children are very welcome to borrow at this time.
