Dear Parents and Carers,
Well, that’s a wrap for 2023, such a great year! Despite the restrictions, we made many good things happen, especially in the area of teaching and learning. We intend for 2023 to be an excellent year as well!
Farewell to Year 6 – Yesterday we farewelled our Year 6 students. They have been exemplary students and we will sincerely miss them (and their wonderful and supportive parents). We also farewelled Matt Lowe, Natalia Ciuffetelli, Rachel Kennedy, Zita Clifford and Anne Gowen. It was quite emotional all round, but we know tears just mean there is a lot of love.
School Fees
On behalf of our school community, I wish to provide you with information regarding our 2023 School Fees and thank you for your continued support of our school. Despite the disruptions wrought by the covid pandemic, we have appreciated families meeting their financial obligations in 2022 to ensure our school continues to thrive.
Due to our high fee collection and effective budgeting, overseen by the School Community Council, we will be able to use school resourcing money in 2023 for the following:
- Resourcing of new furniture for 6 of the classrooms.
- A new sandpit for the school. It will compromise of two large pits with a bridge connecting them. They will be situated in the ‘back yard’ near the courts.
- Continuous upgrading and additions of IT and other school resources
Please also be aware that the majority of school fee payments is allocated to tuition fees- teacher/staff salaries. We are very mindful of the impacts any fee increase incurs on families and have therefore carefully considered what would be most appropriate for the year ahead. In setting 2023 fees, we have worked hard to strike an effective balance between our essential work of providing an excellent education for our students and keeping any increase manageable for families – especially given the current economic environment.
You also will notice that the fees look a little different this year from past years. The names associated with our school levies will be changing across Catholic Education Canberra and Goulburn (CECG). This is to ensure consistency across all schools in support of the rollout of a new finance system which is expected to be deployed over the coming year.
Our fee for a single student in 2023 will be $4360 per year. ($1129 per term). Included in this amount are both Tuition and School Levies. This amount represents an increase of 9% on last year (tuition set by CEC), 6% ( building fund, CEC) and 5% (school levies) , in line with rising salaries and costs required to ensure our school continues to deliver quality education. Thus overall, our fees have increased by 7%. Please see attached the schedule of 2023 fees, including sibling discounts.
We are committed to our policy in the Archdiocese that no student should be refused enrolment, excluded, or disadvantaged because of their inability to afford the fees. If you are experiencing financial hardship and the 2023 fees are a concern for your family, I would encourage you to arrange a meeting with me to discuss early in 2023 how we can help and the financial assistance available. Any discussion on fees would be strictly confidential.
If you have any questions regarding school fees for 2023, please do not hesitate to contact me when school resumes. I would like to extend a huge thank you to Michael Giacomin our SCC Treasurer. He spends many hours preparing the budget and working out the school fees. It is a enormous task (especially being a busy time in his own professional life at this time of the year) and I am thankful for his professional wisdom in finance to ensure that our finances are sound.
I would also like to thank and Naomi Trussler our Finance Manager for the significant role she plays in ensuring the successful management of the school finances.
On behalf of all the staff at this wonderful school, St Thomas the Apostle, we wish all our families are happy, holy and safe holidays. We look forward to seeing you all bright eyed and bush tailed and full of enthusiasm for 2023.
God bless,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
