Dear Parents/Carers,
RUOK? Day
Today is RUOK? Day. We took the opportunity to focus on positive wellbeing messages and the concept of checking in with others. Our MATES program fits beautifully with the concept of being a friend and a good listener. If you would like more information or to watch the videos with your children you can access resources from the following link: https://www.ruok.org.au/education
Advance Notice of Sh.O.W. Afternoon
On Tuesday 24 September from 3.15-6pm, we will be having our Sh.O.W afternoon, which stands for Sharing Our Work. This is an informal opportunity for parents/carers to visit the classrooms and engage positively with the children around their learning. A strategy teachers often use is 2 stars and a wish. Tell your child 2 wonderful, positive things about their learning and then a wish, which might be something to work on or an idea that might support them to progress further. Sh.O.W afternoon is not a time to have a one-to-one interview with your child’s teacher, as they need to be available for saying hello to everyone. Sh.O.W afternoon is a time to celebrate the wonderful learning that is happening at St Thomas’ and I encourage you to take this opportunity to continue to build strong partnerships and celebrate your child’s growth.
School Uniform
Thank you to everyone for ensuring the children are wearing correct uniform. We are currently wearing winter uniform and next term we will transition to summer uniform. It is a tricky time of the year when the weather can be interchangeable; hence, we have a transition period next term. If you are unsure of uniform requirements please access this link: https://www.sttap.act.edu.au/school-uniform
If you are experiencing any issues around uniform, please contact your child’s teacher. We understand, especially at this time of the year, children seem to grow out of many uniform items! Don’t forget Paula Papandrea runs a second hand uniform shop during canteen hours with many good quality items at very reasonable prices.
Many blessings and thank you for your continued support,
Judy Egan

6 Tips for parenting anxious kids
As much as we’d like to we can’t rid our kids of their anxiety, but we can help them dial it right down and live their life in full colour. This article by Dr Jodi Richardson has some great ideas to help support children who are feeling anxious.
Mrs Zita Clifford and the students have been working on an amazing art piece over the last few weeks in Indonesian classes. The artwork is nearing completion and is based on the Contemporary Worlds Indonesian art installation that is currently on display at the National Gallery of Australia.
The art is inspired by traditional art in a contemporary way by using recycled materials. This alines with investigation by Yr 5/6 into transformation and change and Yr 3/4 in sustainability. The materials used have been sourced from the donations in Yr 3/4's Integrated unit.
There are spaces available in the Gold, Silver and Bronze categories. If you are interested in being a sponsor, please see contact details on the flyer.
