Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday we welcomed our new 2023 Kindergarten students to their first orientation day. They had an engaging morning doing Art, Music and STEM activities. There was lots of fun and laughter. Their parents and carers stayed with them for this session but next week they get to have the morning session in the classrooms just with the kindergarten teachers. Parents and carers will have their own orientation session in the hall and will also have a chance to meet other parents and carers of children in Kindergarten for 2023.
End of Year Celebrations
The free barbeque is being run by the School Community Council. Cold drinks will be on sale as well. Please mark this in your diary as it would be so good if every family was able to attend.
Parent Teacher Interviews
Today you will receive an invitation to book a time with your child’s teacher for a parent teacher interviews. These will be in Week 9. When you book, it will automatically default to a face to face booking however, you are most welcome to have the interview over MSTEAMS. You just have to email your child’s teacher to request that.
Planning Teaching & Learning
Last week our Leadership Team met for a day to plan the school Strategic Plan for 2023 – 2025. From this plan, we developed our Annual Improvement Plan for 2023 including strategies for Teaching and Learning. We reviewed our 2022 Annual Improvement Plan, and I am pleased to report that a significant number of our targets were met. We will continue to implement High Impact Teaching Practices across our school next year. We are encouraged by continuing see the positive growth in learning.
School Budget and Fees for 2023
At the dinner we will also be joined by our incredible hard working and dynamic fete committee. We have much to thank them for. We are close to finalising the amount of money made at the fete with a few accounts still to be finalised. I will announce it to the school as soon as the final figure is worked out.
Great to see a warm and dry weekend forecast for the weekend.
Enjoy!

RE Week 7 - Our Common Home - Connecting with ourselves
Advent begins this Sunday! The word Advent comes from the Latin word adventus which means ‘coming.’ Over the next four weeks we will light the four candles of the advent wreath. The candles represent hope, love, joy and peace. Each week we reflect on these different elements in our life.
What will you do to prepare your hearts to celebrate the birth of Jesus at Christmas?
We invite you to engage with the following activity this advent. The resource can be used individually or in a group to reflect on advent and how can prepare to encounter Christ at Christmas.
Illuminate
Seven students from St Thomas the Apostle represented our Youth Ministry Team at the Illuminate conference last Friday. Almost 200 students from various Catholic school across Canberra gathered at Good Shephard Primary Amaroo for a day of fun, faith and formation. The theme of the day was ‘illuminate.’ Students were encouraged to celebrate their gifts and talents and share God’s love with everyone around them.
Maeve, Natalie, Kalari, Annabelle, Darcie, Dannii and Caitlin were outstanding models of behavior and participated in the day wholeheartedly. We are very proud of the students in our Youth Ministry Team and the work that they have done this year. Thank you also to Chiara for helping lead the day and the work she has done in our school.
Mini Vinnies
Our Vinnies Christmas Appeal will be launched in the next week, keep an eye out for details.

Everyone is invited to attend 10am mass on the 4th of December. Students from St Thomas will sing Christmas carols at this mass. The choir has been practising carols in preparation and we have been learning them in music too. All students are welcome to come and sing on the day!

Socktober
The following message was sent to our school from Catholic Mission:
The $1,502.43 you raised can help towards the construction and upkeep of the Deberety Farm’s Goat Rearing Centre, including stocking it with goats. This is a critical service for families like Neela’s and can bring them the fullness of life that we often take for granted here.
You’re also part of a wonderful national movement. St Thomas the Apostle Primary, Kambah joined over 460 other schools in 27 dioceses across Australia in raising awareness and funds for vulnerable children like Ajani. All up, we’ve raised over $210,000†!
On behalf of Ajani and every vulnerable child in Ethiopia and around the world supported by your school, our sincere thanks.

Kinder 2023 Orientation Day 2 Disco Kinder - 6 (12pm) St Thomas' Got Talent Show |
Hi,
This week I did Haiku poetry with Year 1 and the students wrote Haiku poems about me. It was very exhausting and I slept a lot.
On Thursday I met lots of our new 2023 Kinder students and they did craft, sang songs and built boats in STEM!
Today I joined Year 5/6 students in their MacqLit lessons.
Love Tommy
