Dear Parents and Carers,
We are one week post the fete, and we are still in awe of what a fabulous event it was. Many hours of hard work (even blood, sweat and tears) went into the planning and co-ordination of this mammoth event and this was done by an exceptional team of parents, carers and parishioners. A very heartful and genuine thanks goes to the following people who were instrumental in making the fete such a success. The team was headed up by Victoria Pearman and Tia Giacomin. Working with them were Nigel Pearman, Victoria Town, Felicity Mullins, Amie Lloyd, Ana Stewart, Erin Maher, Mel Anrath, Tanya Dunley, Susan Chant, Elizabeth Wilson and Deb Poulton. There were also an incredible band of parents and carers who organised stalls and worked on them during the day. Thank you also to the staff who came on the day and worked tirelessly! It was truly a whole community event. We don’t have the total figure yet for what we made dollars wise, but we do know it’s going to be an amount that reflects a hugely successful day. The final amount will be a special announcement next week.
Reports and Parent Teacher Interviews
Teachers are well into compiling the Semester 2 reports for their classes. All reports will be available through Compass in Week 10. Catholic Education schools are providing graded reports with no comments. Instead, parents and carers are invited to meet with their child’s teacher in Week 9 (5 – 8 Dec) for a parent/teacher conference to discuss student progress. The conversation between you and your child’s teachers will be a valuable opportunity to discuss the teaching and learning that has taken place this semester. You are welcome to come in for these as a face to face meeting, but we are also offering the meetings to occur remotely, via Microsoft Teams if you would prefer. The link for booking a time for an interview will be sent out next week. Interviews will be scheduled for 15 mins slots with the length of the interview time being up to 13 mins. This gives teachers 2 mins in between to get ready for the following interviews.
Student leaving at the end of 2022
Thank you to the families who have let us know that they will not be returning to St Thomas the Apostle school next year. We are going to miss not having you here with us and wish you all the very best for your new school, wherever it is, in 2023. If your child is not returning in 2023 and we haven’t been informed, can you please let Naomi in the front office know. It is imperative for our planning that we have that information.
Class Placements for 2023
The process of allocating children to classes for 2023 is well under way. The allocations are based on many considerations: learning abilities, gender balance, behavioural considerations, personalities, friendships and religion. It is important to have a balance of Catholic and non-Catholic children, especially in sacramental years.
Be assured your child's teacher and other key staff in the school know our students well and have information and data about them which assists in placing them in the best class for 2023. I know this can be an anxious time for parents and we need to remember that children are more resilient than we often give them credit for. They will be able to learn and enjoy school in whichever class they are placed. There is also time given to transition for particular students, depending on their individual needs. This also includes a transition staff meeting, where staff from 2022 will share knowledge about students to their teachers for 2023. During the last week of the school year, students (including those in years 1-6 new to the school) will meet with their class and where possible, their teacher for 2023. They will have the opportunity to spend some time together in preparation for the new year.
We only have 4 more weeks of the school year, and they are going to be very busy.
Enjoy the weekend and we will see you all on Monday.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal

Kinder 2023 Orientation Day 1 Active Australia |
Hi,
This week I have been visiting lots and lots of classrooms and I have learnt about geography in Year 3/4 and science (light and dark) in Year 1. I also played with the students in Year 5/6.
I helped Mr Ryan with lunch duty but I was in my snuggly dog carrier so my little legs didn’t get too tired.
Today I went to the St Anthony’s ELC to visit the new Kinder students for 2023. I was so tired when I came back that I had a very big sleep under Mrs Trussler’s desk!
Love Tommy
