Dear Parents and Carers,
It is a very sad day with the news this morning of the passing of Queen Elizabeth. She has been a part of our lives for all of our lives and although she lives and reigns on the other side of the world, she has always been a person of such integrity and strength that we have admired from afar. It is the end of an era. May she rest in peace with her beloved Prince Phillip.
Staffing and Classes 2023
This is the time of year when Catholic Education and Principals begin the process of staffing for the following year. There will be some changes in staff and I will keep you informed as these are arranged. After being on leave for the duration of 2022, Mrs Penny Vanzwol has decided not to return as Religious Education Coordinator. This position has been advertised and the successful applicant will be decided before the beginning of Term 4. Mrs Zita Clifford, our Indonesian teacher will be retiring from the end of the year (but will still be doing some relief teaching, which is lucky for us). Zita has been an excellent Indonesian teacher and will be sorely missed by the community. We are in the process of exploring options for Indonesian or another language from next year. We have one new teacher joining us on a transfer from Holy Family School in Gowrie. I am pleased to announce that Miss Jessica Salcedo will be with us from 2023. Jessica comes highly recommended from her current school and will be a great addition to our community.
National Catholic Education Commission Conference
I was privileged to attend this conference earlier in the week. It was held in Melbourne with 40 delegates from Canberra Goulburn attending. It was a jam-packed three-day program with world renowned speakers sharing their insights on many current topics. The highlights for me included, Fr Frank Brennan speaking on our mission in Catholic Education in the wider community; Professor Donna Cross speaking on Social and Emotional Learning and Dr Jordan Nguyen (motivating) on education in the future. There were many more addresses I attended that certainly filled my bucket for being inspired about our great Catholic Education system.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson

RE Week 8 - Our Common Home - Connecting with God
RE News Week 8
This week the St Thomas staff engaged in the first session of a two-part spirituality retreat called Flourishing. We learnt about the creation story in genesis and how we flourish when everything is as it’s meant to be. Creation, including us, is designed to be peaceful, to flow smoothly, to be without upset, be complete and flourish. There are four main relationships that we can work on to allow ourselves to be in this space. These relationships are with creation, each other, God and ourselves. Take some time this week to think about the areas in your life where you are flourishing.
Social Justice Day – 16th September
All students will be provided with a special Kenyan themed lunch. The canteen will be closed for all other orders on this day.
All money will go straight to the Charcha Kiomanga Academy to buy another water tank for the school, renovate classrooms or buy new desks. If you would like to find out more about our partner school you can visit the Global School Partners website

Happy Birthday
to the following students and teacher
who will celebrate a birthday this week
Do you feel lucky?
We do, and our fete does too, and we are filling up the money tree, the chocolate wheel etc with great prizes!
We would love more though, so if you have a business and could give us a voucher, a case of wine or something else, get in touch! We will promote you all over the place.
Also, if you know cafe owners, beauty salons, small business owners, hit them up for a voucher or other for our fete - we will spruik the business as best we can... Fete email
Got Treasure?
We have a new stall at the fete this year, turning our new hall into a Treasure Trove full of desirable things!
We would love donations of good quality toys, childrens books (young readers/tweens too), vintage and high quality clothing, sports equipment and other items which doesn't bring you joy anymore, but might be a treasured item for someone else.
We will have 2 donation days coming closer to the fete, but if you are itching to spring clean and get it out of the way, I am happy to receive it now.
Send me an email Victoria.town@cg.catholic.edu.au
Or drop by the canteen one morning and get a coffee too!
Music Aviva
The students participated in a Music Aviva program called Shape Up on Thursday morning. The quartet topology bought their violin, viola, double bass and saxophones to perform for the students. It was an engaging performance where the students even created their own song with the band! Many students at St Thomas have been talking about the instruments they are playing (or want to play) at home. If your child is interested, please encourage them to learn an instrument. It is a great skill that can bring a lot of joy for many years!
Congratulations to the Year 6 St Thomas Bluebells Netball team who had their final game of the season last weekend. The girls had a fantastic season and came 3rd overall in their competition.
Most of the team have been playing together since they were in year 2. They have developed great skills, made great friends and have a life long love of the sport. The team has been coached for many years by Virginia Wilson and Katie Jenkins and supported each week by a fantastic group of parents! Well done Bluebells.
Well done also to the Year 4/5 Blueberries Netball team on their Runners Up result in a highly competitive 2023 season.
