Dear Parents and Carers,
This week was National Science Week and there were many interesting happenings across the school on Monday. Classrooms were abuzz with experiments (see photos). Students (and staff) dressed us as famous scientists such as Marie Curie and Albert Einstein, along with amazing scientists such as geologists, neurobiologists and lab technicians who work quietly away making incredible and life changing discoveries in the world of science.
Laura Vandenbroucke organised a ‘Street Science’ show that had the students enthralled. The theme of the show was Glass: More than meets the eye.
I am sure we have some budding scientist ready for a future in the field when they are older.
Father's Day
We are not going to let COVID restrictions prevent us from marking Father's Day this year. As the weather is not freezing (well hopefully not), we are going to have a morning get-together on Friday 2 September.
All our families are invited to come along for a coffee, tea or juice and donut to celebrate the dads and significant men in the lives of our children. This will be from 8:20am until 8:50am when we end the event with our morning school assembly.
Floriade
Our Floriade display is showing promising signs as the bulbs planted are beginning to shoot. We should have a spectacular display beginning to bloom in the next couple of weeks. We have hundreds of bulbs and annuals planted in the two designated Floriade flower beds at the front of the school. Thank you to John Cousins (our trusty groundman) and Mel Eldridge (mum of Evie and Noah) for all their work making this happen.
Book Week
Book Week is next week. We are looking forward to this annual event as it is always a lot of fun. Everyone is encouraged to dress up as a book character on Thursday 25 August. Use your imagination to create a costume with your child from what you already have at home rather than having to pay for a costume. You’ll be surprised at what you can come up with!
Have a great weekend,

RE Week 5 - Our Common Home - Connecting with God
On Monday, we celebrated the Feast of the Assumption. Pope Francis points out Mary’s amazing capacity to praise God through her song The Magnificat when there were many troubles in her life at the time. Pope Francis invites all of us to ask ourselves whether we, like Mary, praise and thank God for the good things He does for us. “If we forget the good, the heart shrinks. But if, like Mary, we remember the great things that the Lord does, if at least once a day we were to magnify Him, then our hearts will expand, and our joy will increase.”
Global School Partners
Last Friday Simon Carroll from Global School Partners came to talk to the students about our partner school in Kenya. St Thomas the Apostle has supported the Charcha Kiomanga Academy in Kenya for many years. Due to fundraising efforts, the school has been able to refurbish classrooms, install a water tank, build a toilet block, buy new desks and refurbish classrooms. Students will have opportunities to gain awareness of our partner school and raise money for them over the next few weeks.
See the website below to learn more about our partner school.
