Dear Parents and Carers,
We have welcomed four new students to our school this semester. Santana and Grace have joined Kindergarten, Hena has joined Year 3 and Ivona has joined Year 5. We look forward to learning more about you all as the year progresses.
COVID-19 update
The key points to note are:
- Social distancing and hygiene practices remain essential.
- Please keep your child/ren home if they are unwell. Parents will be notified and asked to collect their child/ren if they are exhibiting any symptoms of being unwell.
- The school will continue to communicate to you when a significant number of COVID cases are recorded. Please advise the front office if your child tests positive.
- follow quarantine requirements - students who are close/household contacts are strongly recommended to stay home.
Parents on Site
For the time being, no parents are allowed inside the school buildings with the exception of the Front Office. Teaching your children is our main business and visits to the classroom take the teachers away from their students and can be very disruptive. If you do need to speak to your child’s teacher, please email them to arrange either a phone conversation or a MS Teams chat.
To reduce the impact of Covid-19 on our school in Term 3 and in line with CE recommendations I regretfully advise that we have to make the following decisions;
- Pathway sporting events will be confirmed in the coming weeks.
- There will be no school camps or excursions.
I am sure that you share my frustration but understand that our main goal is the health and safety of the students and staff and ensuring our school can continue to operate throughout the term.
Year 5 and 6 School Camp
August is Hats ON!
A reminder that as of next Monday 1 August, your child/ren will need to wear their hats at recess and lunch. The Cancer Council recommends sun protection when UV levels reach 3 or above, and in Canberra this is reached on most days between August and May, even if for just part of the day.
Uniform
As we return for the term, I feel it is timely to remind our families and students about our school uniform policy. Please read through and discuss with your child/ren:
- Student’s hair should be clean and neat. Shoulder length hair or longer must be tied back.
- Nail polish and make-up in any form are not a part of the school uniform.
- Small plain ear studs (gold or silver only), a watch, a necklace with a cross or medical alert identification only.
- Accessories to match school colours.
Pupil Free Days
A reminder that we have two pupil free days this term. The first is on Friday 5 August and the next is Friday 9 September. Vacation care is available for those parents who require care for their children. Please contact TeamKids for further information.
2022 St Thomas the Apostle Fete
Our fete is fast approaching with only just over 3 months to go. The date is set for Saturday 12 November between 10:00am – 3:00pm. Thank you to the members of the fete committee who met on Tuesday night. This was a very productive meeting with much discussion and decisions being made. We will be reaching out to you, our families, asking for support and volunteers on the day. More updates will follow in newsletters to come.
Book Week
Our annual Book Week celebrations begin on Monday 22 August. The theme for this year is Dreaming with Eyes Open. Our Book Week Parade will take place on Thursday 25 August as a part of our morning assembly. It is always such a wonderful day for our students, and I am looking forward to seeing all the costumes and creations.
Yours in Christ,
Susan Chant
Acting Principal
RE Week 2 - Our Common Home - Connecting with Each Other
Last week we introduced the symbol for our Term 3 focus, Connecting with God. The cross is a symbol of Christianity as it represents the resurrection story of Jesus. The cross is made up of two lines which represent the two main teachings of Jesus. The vertical line reminds us to develop our relationship with God. The horizontal line reminds us to foster our relationships with others. I encourage you to create your own Grace before meals with your family that acknowledges these relationships.
For example: Bless us O Lord, as we sit together and enjoy this meal. We pray for those who do not have enough to eat or drink. We give thanks for the hands that prepared this meal for us, Amen.
Eucharist
Family Prayer Night
We are holding a family prayer night in the Church at 6pm on Wednesday the 3rd of August. You are very welcome to come and pray with our students who are preparing for their First Holy Communion.

Happy Birthday
to the following students
who will celebrate a birthday this week
Today we celebrated National Tree day at school. Each student will come home with a pack of crimson bottlebrush seeds.
We encourage you to join National Tree Day by planting these seeds on the weekend.
It is a great way to spend time outdoors as a family!
Congratulations to Alyssia Igesias’ recent achievement of representing the ACT U11s hockey team. Her team played in the Tamworth Regional Hockey Carnival during the school holidays where she won the Coaches Most Improved player award.
