Dear Parents and Carers,
Next week will be an exciting week to finish off the term.
Week 10
On Wednesday night (29th June) with have our “Movie Night”. The school have had these nights in the past and the children have longed to have another, so they are very pleased that it is finally happening. Thank you to our Student Representative Council for organising this.
The event will be held in the hall and children are invited to come in their PJs and to bring a blanket and pillow to spread out on the floor to watch the family rated movie. (The hall heaters will be on). Victoria will be serving hot chocolate and popcorn from the canteen window.
The doors will be open from 6:10pm with the movie beginning sharp at 6:30pm. There will be a 10 minute break in the middle and the movie concludes at 8:15pm. Parents and carers can collect their children through the hall foyer doors at 8:15pm. Children will not be allowed to leave the hall unless they are in the care of a responsible person. Tickets are $5 for a family ticket. These will be on sale in the playground next week at recess and lunch or can be paid for via the QKR app. All proceeds will go Vinnies. Parents who wish to stay and help supervise are most welcome. Unfortunately, only students who are currently enrolled at St Thomas the Apostle Primary School are allowed to attend this event.
On Friday, the last day for the term, we will celebrate St Thomas the Apostle’s Feast Day (it falls in the holidays on 3rd July.) It will also be our annual ‘Winter Woolies Day’ where children will bring warm clothes to donate to Vinnies. They may also dress in winter woolies (uniform free) for the day. Geoff Ryan, our REC, will provide you with all the details of the day so I won’t repeat them here. I will explain though about our special lunch on Friday. We are having an open fire in primary playground. This will be between recess and lunch. We have a permit for the fire and it will be manned by the fire brigade for the duration of the time it is burning. Victoria will be making camp soup and damper for lunch on the fire. Students will not be going close to the fire, but will come out with their teachers and support staff to see the lunch being cooked. They will be fully supervised at all times and versed in safety instructions before leaving the classrooms. There will be no lunch orders on Friday, as the children will be offered soup and damper cooked on the camp fire. However, you may wish to pack some extra food in case they are still hungry.
Protected Industrial Action on Thursday June 30th
I will update you next Tuesday on the situation with St Thomas’. As we are expecting to be short staffed, please consider keeping your child at home for the day if that is a possibility.
Parent Teacher Interviews
The last two weeks have been busy one with most of you, our parents and carers, having meetings with your child’s / children’s teacher / teachers. The conversations give parents and carers a better understanding of their child’s academic, social, spiritual and emotional progress than a written comment does. There will still be a short comment on the report from the classroom teacher. Reports will be available to access via the Compass Parent Portal from 4pm next Monday 27th June. Thank you very much to our dedicated teachers for their comprehensive preparation for this interview and to you the parents and carers for engaging in these open and honest conversations about your children. From all reports, the interviews went well. An informative and two-way conversation is a positive and satisfying experience.
Enjoy the weekend ahead.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Week 9 - Our Common Home - Connecting with Each Other
This week in prayer, we reflected on the person of Mother Teresa. She was made a saint for the amazing work she did when caring for the poor. Mother Teresa spent many years engaging in countless selfless acts of care for the poor, and she always encouraged us to be a beacon of love to the people close to us. She gives us the following advice, “If you want to change the world, go home and love your family.”
St Thomas the Apostle Feast Day
Saint Thomas the Apostle Feast Day is during the holidays on the 3rd of July. We will celebrate at school on the last day of term (Friday 1st July). Students may wear “winter woolies” to school and Victoria will make a special lunch for the day (Canteen will be closed on Friday 1 July). We will attend mass as a whole school for the first time in almost 2 years! Parents and carers are welcome to meet us at the Church at 9:30 to participate in mass with us. Students will also complete many activities throughout the day, learning about St Thomas the Apostle.
St Vincent de Paul Winter Appeal
Thank you for all the donations that have come in so far. The Vinnies Night Patrol Van will visit our school at 2pm on Friday 1st July to collect the donations. There is still time to donate gloves, socks, jackets, beanies, blankets, sleeping bags and non-perishable food.
This week in the library some students borrowed some additional books for the holidays. As next week is the last week of term all students are welcome to borrow some extra books to challenge or excite them during the break.
Thank you again for looking for any missing books at home. If your child has outstanding books we are in the process of looking for them in the library and then if they are still lost they can be listed as missing in the system.

Wonder Recycling Rewards Program
St Thomas the Apostle are participating in the Wonder Recycling Rewards Program 2022. This is a sustainability initiative in which students can recycle bread bags (of any brand), that might otherwise go to landfill.
These can be brought in at any time and placed in the pink box located in the front office.
For each box we fill we earn reward points which we will be able to redeem on new sports equipment for the school. This will be running until September 2022.
Happy Birthday
