Dear Parents/Carers,
Back to pre-covid pick up in the afternoon
This has gone quite will this week with two major points that need to be made.
- Please use the pedestrian crossing. If you park and come into school please use the crossing.
- The area outside the corridor is for drive through pick-up. If you are meeting your child, please arrange to do that at the stage.
Election
Tomorrow it’s the federal election and St Thomas the Apostle is a Polling Place. As you already know, we will be holding an election day ‘Democracy Sausage’ barbecue. We will also be selling slushies and Victoria will have the canteen open selling coffee. Thank you to those parents and carers who have signed up to help cook and serve and it’s not too late to sign up. Please click link below if you want to nominate a time or even an hour.
As a school community we do not endorse any particular party. As parents and carers whose children are attending a Catholic School, you are urged to consider making education a priority this federal election an vote for a party that does too. The Report Card below describes each parties' priorities for education.
Pupil Free Day next Friday
Our pupil free day is next Friday 27 May. TEAMKIDS are running a program for the day for families who need it. More information on this can be found further down in the newsletter.
I am sure I will see many of you tomorrow as you come through to vote.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
RE Week 4 - Our Common Home - Connecting with Each Other
The candidates for the sacrament of Reconciliation participated in their retreat day with the rest of Year 3. It was a great day for students who attended mass, prayed together, learnt more about the sacrament of Reconciliation and enjoyed a pizza lunch.
The sacrament of Reconciliation reminds us about God’s amazing love. We have read the parables of the Lost Sheep, Lost Coin and the Lost Son. These parables remind us that we are precious to God, and that He welcomes us with open arms when we come to Him. May we focus on forgiveness and kindness over the coming week.
Geoff RyanCommunity Pantry - donations please!
We are seeking donations for the Community Pantry as there are many families who could use a little extra love and support at this time. Any donations of meals you could provide would be most appreciated.

Athletics Carnival - Thursday 26 May
The 2022 St Thomas Athletics Carnival will be held in Week 5 of Term 2 (Thursday 26/5/2022). If you have not yet completed the Compass permission note, that needs to be done ASAP. Parent helpers will be contacted soon.
Keep your fingers and toes crossed that the weather holds out for us to have a dry and fantastic carnival.
Please see the flyer below for events and approximate times.
This week the students began to make their videos using iPads. It is great to see how creative they are with their storytelling techniques. Kinder and Year 1 are retelling or creating their own versions of Nick Bland books, using the illustrations to tell a story to the camera. Years 3-6 have begun crafting their stop motion animations using lego, toys, whiteboards and other props.
Next Wednesday we will be participating in National Simultaneous Storytime. This years book 'Family Tree' is written by Australian singer and songwriter Josh Pyke. It is all about family connections and origins. Consider taking some time this week to talk to your child/ren about your family tree.
Borrowing days for next week:
Tuesday 24th May: K-2, 3/4B
Wednesday 25th May: 3/4G, 5/6KP, 5/6B

Happy Birthday to the following students who will celebrate a birthday this week

Our St Thomas the Apostle Fete is the major fundraiser for our school and parish. In 2019 we raised $30,000 which was a fantastic result. This money benefits all our students and parishioners, including helping pay for the very popular hard court in the playground. While the Fete was not able to be held in either 2020 or 2021, we are pleased to announce that planning has begun for 2022.
Theme - Community Celebration
At our first meeting, the Fete Committee discussed setting realistic goals for 2022. After a second lockdown last year, it was agreed that the focus will be on reconnecting the community, with a theme of Community Celebration. Because of safety considerations, the fete will have a smaller number of stalls. The list of stalls is currently being considered.
Committe Members Needed
A number of committee members have stepped down after many years of supporting the fete. We are reaching out to parents, carers and parishioners to join us this year as a committee member or stallholder. At present, the fete needs both a convenor and an entertainment coordinator. Both positions are crucial to the running of our fete, and without them, the fete cannot occur. If you would like any information about either of these positions, please contact Susan Chant susan.chant@cg.catholic.edu.au
For our stallholders we believe engaging volunteers early to run the stalls will be beneficial to the committee and stallholders alike. It will lighten the load for committee members (see below for committee positions) and will make it easier on the day for stallholders. Our aim is to involve stallholders early so they can have input into ordering, site positioning, tasks and volunteers etc.
Thank you to all stallholders and volunteers from previous years, we have really valued your time and energy. We can't stress enough how much we need and depend on the commitment and input of the whole school and parish community to run a successful fete. Many hands make light work, so if you are willing to join the committee or run a stall please get in contact with Susan Chant, a member of the committee or come and see what it's all about at the next Fete Committee Meeting!
