Dear Parents and Carers,
Today from 4 pm, you will be able to log on to the Parent Portal on COMPASS and access your child/ren’s mid semester Progress Report.
This report gives a general indication of how your child is progressing against the Personal, Social and Learning Behaviour outcomes for their particular year level. There is also an opportunity for your child’s teacher to request to organise a time with you for a conversation.
Parent Teacher interviews will be in Week 8 of Term 2 followed by the End of Semester Report in Week 10.
To continue to work in partnership with you to educate your child, please know you are welcome to request to speak with your child’s teacher at any time of the school term. We value the importance of connecting with you to promote this positive partnership.
Canteen
We are considering trialling opening the canteen on a Monday in Term 2. Before a decision is made, we would like to gauge from the community what the uptake of the service would be. Please answer the two questions in the link that follows to help us with this information. This survey will be open until Sunday 3 April and we will let you know if the trial is going ahead.
Colder Weather
As the weather is beginning to cool right down, it is important that the children are warm so that they can be in the best space for learning. We will have the heaters and air purifiers on but will also need to have the doors open (at least some way) to allow for adequate ventilation. Besides wearing the winter school uniform items, please feel free to send your child to school with a warm rug. Polar fleece rugs are quite warm and inexpensive. We have a good supply here as well for the students to use. These will be laundered on a regular basis.
School Community Council
We had our second School Community Council meeting of the term on Monday night. We welcomed Angela Schacht in her new role as Deputy Chair. Angela is going to summarise the meetings after they happen and provide a report to our community. This will take the place of the Principal Report twice a term as it is important that you hear what your SCC are doing in the school.
Only one more week until the Easter break. I’m sure you are all looking forward to it as much as I am. The shops are full of Easter eggs ready to celebrate on Easter Sunday. As we finish school for the Easter break, before Holy Week even begins, we ask that children do not bring Easter eggs to give out next week. Please wait until we come back after the holidays where we will celebrate the Resurrection of Jesus and enjoy some Easter treats.
Don’t forget daylight saving finishes on Sunday morning, time to wind the clocks back an hour. I know that there will be no children late for school on Monday, in fact I am sure they will all be on time at 8:30am!
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
Our School Theme for 2022 is Our common home. As we approach Easter with a new sense of life, let us think about how we can care for our common home. The students have been thinking about ways we can care for our environment, often with simple acts in our daily life. Pope Francis reminds us that these small acts impact not just the environment but ourselves too.
"We must not think that these efforts are not going to change the world. They benefit society, often unbeknown to us, for they call forth a goodness which, albeit unseen, inevitably tends to spread. Furthermore, such actions can restore our sense of self-esteem; they can enable us to live more fully."
Project Compassion
What a generous community we have! We have already raised $600 for Project Compassion. We will provide an update early next term with the final total donated to Project Compassion by the St Thomas the Apostle community. Thank you for your generous donations.

Thank you to those families who are regularly returning and borrowing books. This is the final week of library for the term and I am encouraging students to borrow extra books for the holiday period. The students are continuing to learn about different storytelling techniques through animation. This week the focus was on facial expressions and music through the short story "Drop".
Thank you to parents and carers for our recent donations of books to the library. We will always try to find a new home for pre-loved books.
Borrowing Days Week 10:
Tuesday 5th April: K-2, 3/4J
Wednesday 6th April: 3/4C, 5/6KM, 5/6B

Upsizing?
It is time to find the winter uniforms out and get them ready for Term 2!
We have lots of little ladies looking for small winter pinafores, and the uniform shop only have bigger ones on the rack, so if your child is ready to upsize to a size 8 or 10, we would love for you to donate any size 4 – 5 – 6 pinafores you may have,
Thank you

Happy Birthday to the following staff who will celebrate a birthday this week
On the weekend I went to a chess tournament. It was a challenge because I was the youngest and it was my first time playing in a competition. I made some friends. I won two games. It made me happy and excited. I would like other people to play chess. You should play chess because you can cheer each other on, you can make friends and it helps your memory.

The ACT Government is making some changes to the way rapid antigen tests (RATs) are distributed to ACT school communities for the remainder of Term 1. RATs will continue to be available through our school but will be provided to staff and students on an as-needed basis or in response to increased cases as necessary. If you require additional tests, please contact the front office on 6231 4144 or by email at office.sttapkambah@cg.catholic.edu.au
