Dear Parents and Carers,
Yesterday I had the privilege of presenting our Year 6 students with their badges for the School Representative Council (SRC), House Captains and School Leadership Teams. The three teams are: Sustainability, Mission and Service along with Wellbeing. We have high expectations for our Year 6 students (as we do for all our students). The School Leadership Teams had their first meeting this afternoon to discuss what we have planned for them, but also to share what they want to see happen in the school under their leadership. The SRC will have their first meeting with me next week.
Being Punctual for the School Day to Begin
Last week I spoke about the importance of students being on time for school each day. Besides the anxiety it can cause, there is also a cumulative effect of those lost minutes at the beginning of the day. Although it might just seem a few minutes each day, you might be surprised by what the table below reveals.
COVID
We've been very fortunate to experience very few COVID positive cases this past week Thank you for letting us know when your child has tested positive on a RAT and also for keeping children at home when they exhibit any symptoms related to COVID. It helps us to support the community to stay healthy and well.
School Community Council (SCC)
Our first meeting (albeit virtual) of the SCC will be held this coming Monday. The main item on the agenda will be the presenting and passing of the budget for this year. In coming weeks, the SCC members will be reaching out to you all to let you know all about them and how they can best represent you on the School Community Council.
Class Parents
You would have received correspondence form Edwina and Aleks (SCC members organising class parents) earlier in the week. I encourage you, if you haven’t already done so, to connect with your class parent group. More than ever in these times when parents and carers are not able to come into the school, this connection will help prevent isolation, especially for our new families.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal
Retreat Day – Journey with Jesus
On Monday our Year 6 students participated in a retreat day called Journey with Jesus. It was run by the Catholic Schools Youth Ministry Team. The students were involved in prayers, dramas and games throughout the session. They participated with reverence and maturity, showing us that they will be wonderful leaders this year.
Leadership Badge Ceremony
On Thursday we held a leadership badge ceremony for all the students and staff at St Thomas. Even though we couldn’t have parents in attendance, we were able to celebrate and welcome our Year 6 leaders for 2022. The leadership groups for 2022 are the Mission and Service team, Sustainability team and Wellbeing team. We look forward to working with these amazing Year 6 leaders in 2022.
Mini Vinnies
The Mini Vinnies team will be running again this year at St Thomas the Apostle. Mini Vinnies is a group of students in Years 3-6 who are interested in helping others and learning more about social justice. If your child is interested in being involved in the Mini Vinnies team this year, please return the note to Mr Ryan by 24th February. Your child may have received a note at school and there is a copy attached to the newsletter.

REC
Thank you again to those students who brought in their books and library bags this week. Some younger students are using the blue reader/note bags which do work really well to protect them. It is really encouraging to see so many children be excited about borrowing and about books in general.
This week some of the older students completed a survey about their general interests, books and authors they enjoy and what they think needs to be added to the library. I am always happy to hear feedback and ideas from the school community about tips for new and old books that may be of interest to your child/ren. Please send me an email at leah.bayin@cg.catholic.edu.au if you would like to provide some feedback.
If you are a master at covering books we would also love a few extra hands to help with that. Please let me know if you have any spare time and are willing to help.

Teacher Librarian (Term 1)
Plans are underway for the Fete to return this year on Saturday 13 November from 10:00am - 2:30pm.
Fete Countdown
268 days
In order for the fete to be successful we are on the lookout for:
Convenor and Committee Members
It is a big job to pull the fete together each year and the committee still has a few vacant positions that need filling. We are looking for as much support as we can get.
Sponsors and Donations
WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT NOW!
For the fete to be financially successful it requires generous donations of cash and prizes. If you or someone you know would like to make a cash or a prize donation, or you are a business who would like to make a tax-deductible donation before the end of the Financial year we would love to hear from you. All sponsors are recognised in the lead up to the fete, a sponsorship proposal is available on request if you are interested to know more about this.
Next virtual meeting

Happy Birthday to the following students and teacher who will celebrate a birthday this week

Dear Parents and Carers

These groups are a safe space for us to interact, so please remember to be positive, kind, courteous, and respectful.
If you experience any problems joining your group(s), you can reach out to us via the school.
