Dear Parents and Carers,
Today we welcomed back our students who have been in quarantine. We have missed them and we thank them for the patience and understanding they have shown over the last two weeks. Let’s hope and pray that we stay a COVID free school for the last two weeks of the school year. No one wants to be in quarantine over Christmas. We will continue with the multiple measures in place to diminish the risk of this happening. We will maintain cohorting and limiting contact with people out of the class. Our Kinder Nativity, Carols, barbeque, Colour Run, and ‘Meet your Teacher for 2022’ will all take place outside. If the weather isn’t conducive to that happening, we will juggle times so they can still happen. If there is one thing we have learnt over the past two years, and that is how to be flexible.
Staffing for 2022
Today I announce the bittersweet news that Ms Penny Vanzwol will be taking a year away from teaching next year, and will be working for the St Vincent de Paul Society. We all know how passionate Penny is about social justice and she has answered the call to become part of this truly amazing organisation. We know that Penny will be such a wonderful asset to Vinnies and although we will miss her incredibly, we are also so proud of her for taking up this role and making a genuine difference in the lives of many people. The REC position will be advertised and filled in the next two weeks.
We will be welcoming two new staff members next year. Mrs Angela Bartkowiak and Ms Kellie Rootes. Many of you will know Angela as both of her children came to St Thomas the Apostle and Angela was on the School Community Council up until 2020.

School Representative Council Elections (SRC)
Over the past week I have been reading the application letters from the Year 5 students who want to be considered for the 2022 School Representative Council and also for the House Captain positions. I am so impressed with the wisdom and commitment of the applicants in wanting take on these leadership positions for 2022. They all showed that they have put a lot of thought into their application and they are ready to work hard should they be chosen. They will now present their speeches to the students from Year 2 to 5 at an outside assembly on Tuesday of next week and after this, the students will vote for the Council members. The House Captain speeches and elections will take place on Thursday next week.
On the topic of writing, I received this letter for the Year 3/4 this week. I just had to share it with you all.
Dear Mrs Jamieson,
In 3/4J we are currently on Day 8 of our 20 day kindness challenge. Each day we are given a new kindness mission to complete. Today our mission was to share our gratitude for the school.
We feel extremely grateful for our friends and peers, without them we might feel sad and gloomy at school. The safe and fun place that we have to play and learn in, is a place we enjoy coming every single day. That the teachers, including you, are able to keep us all safe during this tough time in the pandemic. We are grateful that our school has so many resources to make learning fun and more interesting.
We feel lucky to have places in our school like Area 4, the oval, the basketball courts, the classrooms, the playgrounds, the quiet area, the music room, the handball courts, the Church, the decorated bathrooms, the café courtyard, the garden with the chickens, and our brand new hall. These areas are places where we can either play or learn, have fun and exercise; they can be a place to meet new friends.
We enjoy our lunch time clubs where we can express our interests and passions. Our canteen provides us with delicious food and we feel so lucky to have so many choices!
We are thankful for all the staff and teachers at our school who help us learn and grow, to help us have fun, and assist us in hard times. Our school is lucky to have a wonderful principal too.
We feel blessed to have Jesus, because he shows us the way, the truth and the life. We also feel lucky to have shelter and running water, we know this is a privilege.
So finally, a very big thank you for making this school a place we love to be!
Many blessing on you and your family in this season of Advent.
Yours in partnership,
Ursula Jamieson
Principal

Our Christmas tree is full as will my little car be when I take the gifts over to Matt on Monday. If you would still like to bring a donation, please do so on Monday. You are an amazing community! We are so blessed.

REC
This week was our last week of borrowing from the Library. Please return all Library books by MONDAY WEEK 10. The process of returning all books is a significant one. We appreciate the effort you put into returning all books promptly. Please have a good look for all books on the weekend. Overdue notes will go out next week. If you are unable to find any books on the list, please return the overdue note so that I can remove the book from the system. In the same way, if you feel he book has been returned, please add a note and I can look for it on the shelf. I appreciate your collaboration with this significant task.
