Dear Parents,

Our School Swimming Carnival this year is to be held at Stromlo Leisure Centre on Friday of week 4 (26/2/2021). We are lucky enough to be heading to a brand-new indoor facility this yearStudents in Years 2-6 will depart from school at 9:15am, with the carnival commencing at 9.30am. The children will depart the pool at 2:15pm. Times of specific races are very difficult to determine, however a run sheet of races will be available with approximate times closer to the event.

**All students must be assessed prior to swimming. Teachers, and swim instructors at the pool will undertake a swim assessment and students will be given the appropriate wrist band. Please ensure the attached permission slip is completed in respect of your child’s swimming ability to the best of your knowledge. Please err on the side of caution. **

Capable swimmers can compete in championship events (50m) which gives them the opportunity to represent the school at the regional carnival. Unfortunately, this year, due to COVID restrictions any student turning 8 or 9 (born 2012/13) will not be eligible for the regional carnival.  For those swimmers that are unable to swim 50m with confidence, we run 25m races. Please let your child know that these races commence at the shallow end of the pool with no diving and a bulkhead at the 25m mark.

We will also have novelty events to encourage as many children as possible to get in and have some fun on the day. Priority for these novelty events will be given to non-race swimmers, and those children participating in a small number of races. These will be conducted in the shallower pool, with the opportunity to access the splash park. We always strive to get as many children competing in as many races/events on the day as we can. Along with this, we also strive to make 25m events as equitable as possible. Our focus is participation, not winning a race.

ALL CHILDREN ARE EXPECTED TO ATTEND AND PARTICIPATE TO THEIR LEVEL OF ABILITY

Children in Year 2 who are capable swimmers, who were born in 2013 and who wish to swim in championship races need to indicate this on the nomination form. As mentioned above, at this stage they will not be eligible for the regional carnival.

Children can wear their swimwear under their sports uniform to school.

Please supply your child with a towel, morning tea, lunch and a drink in reusable containersCafé facilities will be available on the day for limited purchases of hot food ($10) and ice-creams.

  1. Sausage Roll & Chips
  2. Pie & Chips
  3. Chicken Nuggets & Chips
  4. Cheese Burger& Chips

Pool admittance and return bus fares are covered by the Activities Levy. For the purposes of accountability, we prefer that all children return to school from the carnival on the bus

Please note that parents and siblings entering the pool may have to pay an entrance feeParking is FREE at Stromlo though.

A separate nomination entry must be completed for each child in your family (Years. 2-6). These need to be competed by Monday 15th February 2021 (Week 3).

Finally, these sorts of events are not possible to run without the amazing help of parent volunteers. If you are willing and able to help on the day, please fill in the parent helpers' section and/or email Mr Lowe with your availability. matt.lowe@cg.catholic.edu.au

Kind regards,

Matthew Lowe
